Deema
Major: Biomedical Engineering
As a Biomedical Engineering Major at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Deema enjoys applying the knowledge she gains from her engineering courses to tutor students and help them excel in their STEM classes. Deema has experience working as a research assistant in the hearing lab, as well as being a teacher assistant for one of her professors. In high school, Deema took many AP classes and excelled in them all. Deema enjoys reading, watching Netflix (Stranger Things is her favorite show!), and spending time outdoors!
Alicia
Major: Biology & Neuroscience
Minor: Philosophy
Alicia is a pre-med student at UNC-Chapel Hill, and she has a passion for learning (and teaching) a wide range of subjects. She has been a peer mentor for Organic Chemistry for the last several semesters, and she is a research assistant for Algoe Lab, a social psychology lab at UNC that studies the everyday social interactions that build relationships. She also works part-time as a CNA at UNC Hospital in the Cardiothoracic Stepdown Unit. In high school, Alicia ran cross country and track, and she has been involved in martial arts since she was 7. Her favorite UNC memory so far is January 2022 when the campus was covered in snow!
Sean
Major: Neuroscience
As a Pre-Med Neuroscience major at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Seán shares his passion for education by hosting study sessions for his classmates. Spending time as a one-on-one patient career through CareYaya this fall, Seán has been gaining experience taking care of the Chapel Hill community. He’s also spent time working in a clinic the past two summers interacting with patients assisting in them in receiving care they needed. While in High School, Seán led by performance on his football team, earning the offensive MVP award as well as NC Southwestern 4A All-Conference Offensive Lineman. His favorite UNC memory so far was traveling to the Dean Dome to watch the UNC-Duke game and rushing Franklin Street!
Claire
Major: Chemistry, Pre-Medical track
Minor: Biology
Claire is currently a senior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill studying chemistry on the pre-medical track. After spending her summer applying to medical school, she is hoping to matriculate as a medical student after graduation and pursue her goal of becoming a medical oncologist. Claire has spent much of her undergraduate career serving as a volunteer STEM tutor for local high school students, working as an MCAT tutor on UNC’s campus, and mentoring her classmates in several upper-level chemistry courses. Outside of school, she has enjoyed working as a medical scribe in the emergency department and conducting research in an oncology lab at UNC School of Medicine. In high school, Claire was a member of the varsity cross country, track, and lacrosse teams and was awarded Academic-All American honors. She is an enthusiastic basketball fan and is excited for UNC’s upcoming season!
